Description
March with us
Deakin students, staff, friends and families - join us for Pride March 2018, taking place on Sunday 28 January in St Kilda, Melbourne.
Midsumma's iconic annual Pride March celebrates the journey of Victoria’s Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual, Transgender, Intersex and Queer community towards equality.
Close to 100 Deakin marchers took part last year - let's make Deakin's presence even bigger and better for 2018.
Register to attend and we will keep you updated with all the details in the lead up to the event, via email.
On the day
The Pride March will kick off at 2 pm with a pre-march procession by Dykes on Bikes followed by thousands of marchers. Deakin is marching in position R5 (Wave R), which will have a slightly later start time, so please assemble at 2.30 pm.
Location
The Deakin (Wave R) drop off/assembly point is on Canterbury Road - see map. Look for the group with the Deakin t-shirts.
Things to note
- We will have some light pre-march refreshments but please bring your own lunch/snacks.
- Bring a water bottle – it will minimise waste and you can refill it at the marshalling area.
- Be sun smart – bring a hat and sunscreen.
- Public transport is the best option for travelling to Pride March – parking will be limited.
- Deakin coloured t-shirts will be handed out on the day (subject to availability), as well as rainbow flags and rainbow tasselled mortar boards (which must be returned to us at the end of the march).
There will be a post-march gathering at Catani Gardens at the end of the march.
Photography
A Deakin photographer will be taking photos on the day. We will use these for marketing and promotion. If you do not want to be photographed please let her know on the day. View photos of last year's colourful Deakin group at the 2017 Pride March
